MWOS FC, one of the favourites
The Northen Region Soccer League is certainly entertaining this season. The big names are delivering, and the competition is fierce to determine who will be crowned champions and gain promotion into the PSL. Black Mambas, Harare City, Chegutu Pirates, Herentals U20, Golden Eagles, and division one debutants MWOS FC are top on the list of favourites to gain promotion.
Black Mambas are five points clear of second-placed Harare City, and they are yet to be beaten in the league. Harare City, Chegutu Pirates, and Herentals U20 are all tied with 29 points apiece. MWOS FC are in fourth, with 28 points above Golden Eagles, who are in fifth with 28 points also but ranked below due to goal difference. The top five teams are certainly on to each other, and a slip-up by any one will result in the other taking full advantage.
The Punters are in contention to gain promotion in one go, and they have made a rather decent start to their goal. With one game left in the first half of the season, the Punters have scored the most goals (22) in the league, and they have also defended pretty well. The Punters have conceded ten goals this season, placing them sitxth on the list of teams that have conceded a few goals. Head coach Lloyd Mutasa, together with Wonder Ngoko, seem to have created a good team that is scoring goals and defending, and they have a chance to make history and bring the Norton-based side into the PSL.
Matchday 17 has an interesting line-up of games. League leaders Black Mambas FC will travel to Nest, where they will face Golden Eagles. MWOS FC will host Herental U20 at MWOS Ngoni Stadium, and Chegutu Pirates will host Commando Bullets at Pfupajena Stadium. If MWOS FC win against Herentals, they will have established their dominance and made their intentions of gaining promotion clear. Authur Banda and Chris Samakwere are both tied as top goalscorers for MWOS FC with five goals apiece, and they will be favourites to score this Sunday.
