MWOS FC triumphed over Banket United FC to climb to fourth place on the league table

This Saturday, it was a hive of excitement at the MWOS Ngoni Stadium, in Norton, as the Punters hosted Banket United FC on Matchday 4 of the Northern Region Soccer League. The stadium was packed with fans, as has been the norm lately, with fans from all around Norton trooping to the stadium on matchdays to support MWOS FC.

Head Coach Wonder Ngoko did not disappoint as he set up an attacking formation. Aurthur Banda, Jim Gwara, and Martin Nhubu led at the front, with expectations high for one of them to score. The game was exciting as expected, with both teams battling it out in the midfield as they tried to maintain possession and get control of the game. Good attacking play was on show by the Punters as they put the Banket United goalkeeper to the test on a regular basis. A breakthrough came in the 31st minute, when Authur Banda struck a shot from within the box to give the Punters the advantage. The goal is his second of the season in four appearances. After the goal, MWOS FC pretty much had control of the game. Kudzai Zhuwaki and Tafadzwa Nyabunze had things under control in midfield, giving the opponent little breathing space.

The second half was no different from the first half. Both teams had good chances on goal, but neither managed to convert. Blessing Mwandimutsira made some good saves that left the fans wowed and assured that he is the right man to stand between the posts. Admire Dzumbunu and Jordan Pedro were no exception to the brilliance that the whole team was displaying on the day. They kept the backline solid and tackled well to avoid conceding. Brighton Banda, Tyron Matongorere, and Jerimiah Makangire were introduced in the second half, and they made an instant impact. Brighton kept the game exciting on the left wing with his dribbling and pace. Tyron controlled the midfield well to replicate what Kudzai Zhuwaki had done in the first half. There was no goal in the second half as Banket United denied MWOS FC another goal while also failing to penetrate the defense of the Punters.

Lee Rinodamoto and Robson Chaleka were critical in attack as they acted as attacking players rather than defensive wingbacks. Their input in regards to attacking keeps improving, and their crosses have led to some good chances so far this season. Marshal Kawashu was back on the bench but could not get on the pitch, but his condition is promising, and the skipper could make a return soon. Chris Samakwere led the boys as captain, and his leadership was invaluable as he commanded the boys well.

Assistant Head Coach Warren Mapanga was very impressed with the defensive work and how well Blessing commanded the backline. The Punters face Chinhoyi Stars FC on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Chinhoyi Stadium.
