The Punters went two goals down in the first thirty minutes of the game to ten men Karoi United, who had a player sent off for a harsh tackle. Conceding two goals did not break the Punters’ morale, as the fans cheered the players on regardless of the disappointing start. A break finally came a minute before halftime through the head of Authur Banda, who connected sweetly to a cross by Tinashe Giya. The goal gave the fans and the team some hope of a comeback in the second half.
The concluding forty-five minutes of the game were a masterpiece showing of skill, talent, and teamwork by the Punters. In the 62nd minute, substitute Brighton Banda scored the equaliser giving the team the boost it needed to try to go on and win the match. This was Brighton’s first goal of the season for the Punters. Given his skill and character, he could go on to score many goals now that he has had a taste of scoring.
The hero of the match was Chris Samakwere. The captain for the day pulled off quite the performance, leaving fans convinced of his capabilities. The veteran midfielder scored his second goal of the season in extraordinary fashion. He dribbled past a few opponents, made a quick run, and released a shot from outside the box that left the goalkeeper with no chance. The fans and coaches were in high spirits, having managed to see the team perform well and win from behind.
“We are on the right path, and we want the team to maintain this fighting spirit. A game consists of 90 minutes, and until the referee blows his whistle after the 90, the game is up for grabs”, said head coach Lloyd Mutasa after the match. The Punters move to fourth position on the Northern Region Soccer League table with a fixture away to Harare City on Saturday on their schedule.
