Cup Hopes Ended by Triangle United at MWOS Ngoni Stadium

MWOS FC’s journey in the Chibuku Super Cup came to an end on Saturday, as a 2-0 defeat to Triangle United at a packed MWOS Ngoni Stadium saw the side exit at the semi-final stage.

The Punters were dealt an early blow, conceding in the fourth minute following a defensive lapse that allowed the visitors to seize an immediate advantage. Despite the setback, the home side responded with conviction, dominating possession and creating a succession of clear-cut chances throughout the first half.

Despite their territorial ascendancy and forcing Triangle United into a prolonged period of defensive duties, MWOS FC were left frustrated, unable to find the crucial final touch to convert their pressure into an equaliser. The introduction of attacking substitutes in the second half, including Sam Mutenheri and Wilson Mensah, was unable to alter the pattern of play in the final third.

The tie was ultimately put to bed against the run of play in the 81st minute, as Triangle United capitalised on a counter-attack to score a decisive second goal and secure their place in the final.

A visibly disappointed Head Coach Lloyd Mutasa reflected on a below-par performance in his post-match assessment. “This has to be one of the worst games we have played this season,” Mutasa stated. “We had a lot of chances, and we failed to convert. We performed below par.”

The team must now regroup and shift focus immediately, as they prepare to host the same opponents, Triangle United, in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixture this Saturday, November 1st, with kick-off at 1500 hrs at MWOS Ngoni Stadium.
