From Shared Genetics to Tactical Synchronisation — The Story of the Murambiwa Twins
If MWOS FC head coach Lloyd Mutasa calls out the name Murambiwa during a tactical briefing, two integral members of the Punters’ squad will immediately react. First-team midfielder Mathew will answer the call, alongside his twin brother, McSean Murambiwa. Born on December 12, 2002, the brothers share much more than genetic traits; they share an elite footballing intellect, an affinity for the midfield engine room, and an unwavering commitment to defending the MWOS FC badge with immense pride.
Mathew frequently recalls the origins of his nickname, ‘Dudu’, a nickname born from a fierce, inherent drive to protect his brother during their formative years. “I got the name Dudu because I used to go and fight or beat up whoever had bullied my twin brother,” Mathew Sergio Murambiwa explained. Today, that raw protective instinct has evolved into uncompromising defensive solidity and resilience on the pitch, allowing him to break up opposition attacks and shield the defensive line with professional maturity.
The twins arrived at MWOS Ngoni Stadium through divergent developmental pathways, each building their technical quality in different environments. MacSean’s career trajectory required a structured build-up through the domestic tiers, beginning with a two-season tenure at Eastern Region outfit FC Wangu Mazodze in 2022. He advanced his tactical discipline at Kwekwe-based FC Wangu Mazodze City in 2024, followed by a winter transfer to Ali Sundowns in 2024. His attacking intent and consistent work rate eventually secured him a mid-season move to MWOS FC u19 in 2025, where he initially anchored the U19 setup before transitioning into the senior fold.
Conversely, Mathew Murambiwa’s footballing education was heavily influenced by the high-intensity demands of the South African leagues. He established his foundation during a stint with Musina United between 2022 and 2023, showcasing exceptional transition play that earned him a move to Venda Football FC in South Africa’s Division 1 in 2024. Armed with vital experience in professional game management across the border, Mathew returned to Zimbabwe to join Harare City later that year, before officially committing his future to MWOS FC for the 2025 campaign.
Now united under the MWOS FC banner, the Murambiwa twins offer Coach Mutasa a unique proposition in the middle of the park. Their innate, unspoken understanding of one another’s spatial positioning allows the team to execute a synchronised high press and maintain absolute midfield dominance. As they continue to integrate their shared vision with the club’s overarching ambitions, Mathew and McSean stand as a testament to the club’s recruitment of technically gifted, fiercely loyal personnel.
