Inside MWOS FC: The Medical Leadership of Herbert Mashabe

Since the establishment of MWOS FC in 2019, Herbert Mashabe popularly known as “Hebha” has been an integral part of the club’s journey.

As the first medical professional at the club, Mashabe laid the foundation for player health and performance at MWOS Ngoni Stadium. From day one, his mission was clear — keep the squad fit, respond swiftly to every setback, and ensure the team was always ready to compete. His commitment, care, and consistency have played a vital role in shaping the club’s standards on and off the pitch.

MWOS FC participated in the ZIFA Mashonaland West Division 2B campaign in 2022 and went on to win the league convincingly, securing promotion to Division 1. Throughout that successful season, Mashabe played a critical role in managing player fitness and handling injuries, contributing to the team’s consistency on the pitch.

Ahead of the club’s historic debut in the 2023 Northern Region Soccer League season, Mashabe was instrumental in preparing the medical department to meet league standards. He ensured that all required medical equipment and necessities were sourced and made available before the season commenced, supporting the club’s transition into a more demanding competitive environment.

His expertise in sports medicine has proven pivotal over the years, with the team recording minimal injury concerns across recent seasons.

Speaking on Larry’s Look at the League, Head Coach Lloyd Mutasa acknowledged the contribution of the medical department:

“Ana Mukoma Herbert are very active, and we had very little concern when it came to injuries in the past seasons,” said the head coach.

In a recent interview, Mashabe expressed his passion for the role, saying he is excited to continue serving the club and finds motivation in seeing players competing freely, without pain.

While the department has since expanded, the systems and structures established by Mashabe continue to form the foundation of MWOS FC’s medical operations.

Having witnessed players and technical staff come and go, Herbert Mashabe remains one of the longest-serving members of the MWOS FC project. His loyalty, professionalism, and dedication continue to be valued by the club.
