MWOS FC settle for a draw in their first pre-season game at home
MWOS Ngoni Stadium has been undergoing renovations so as to meet Division 1 football standards. This has resulted in the team playing most of its pre-season friendlies away from home. However, fans were delighted last weekend as they got a chance to watch the Punters in action on home soil when MWOS FC faced Banket United FC at MWOS Ngoni Stadium.
The fans came in their numbers, and the stadium was packed. The game did not disappoint, as it kept both sets of fans on the edge of their seats. MWOS FC dominated the game in the first half, with the team playing good possession football but failing to score a goal. The first goal of the game came in the second half. Banket United FC broke free from a failed set-piece routine by MWOS FC and made a counterattack. Goalkeeper Lloyd misread the play and Banket United FC managed to chip the ball over him and scored a goal.
It didn’t take long for MWOS FC to make a comeback. Substitute Jerry Makangire was in the right place at the right time to tap in a goal. The goal increased the morale of the boys. They began to attack more and kept the opposition at bay. Kudzai, who plays as an attacking midfielder, failed to convert two chances from close range in the dying minutes of the game. He could have easily put the game to bed, but he lacked composure and blew both shots over the post.
Coach Farai said after the match that he was pleased that Jerry came in to score from the bench and that he is hopeful that other strikers like Authur Banda, Mutsa, and Simango will pick up their scoring boots and score goals.
