MWOS FC U19 Seek Consistency After Breakthrough Zambezi Victory

The young Punters finally settled their unfinished business with Zambezi G&C, grinding out a hard-fought 1-0 victory that avenged their heartbreaking defeat last season at Muriel Mine Stadium.

This was no ordinary three points for MWOS FC U19 – it was redemption. The memory of their 1-0 loss to Zambezi in the 2024 season, which shattered their early unbeaten run, still lingered fresh in the players’ minds as they took to the pitch.

From the first whistle, Joseph Takaringofa’s boys showed tactical discipline, with defenders Kieth Handirade and Munayaradzi Rekanani putting in a colossal shift at the back. Their perfectly timed tackles and aerial dominance kept Zambezi’s attackers in their pockets throughout a tense first half that ended goalless.

The second half saw MWOS turn the screw, controlling possession but lacking the final touch to break the deadlock. That changed in the 81st minute when super-sub Garry Gaveni – introduced to inject creativity – combined beautifully with Bright Majamanda to slot home the match-winner, sending the MWOS bench into raptures.

“We’re happy with the win,” admitted a relieved Takaringofa post-match. “Our results haven’t been the best, but this is a start. We can build from here to climb up the table.”

Despite the morale-boosting victory, MWOS remain rooted at the bottom of the Northern Region Soccer League table with just 12 points from 15 games. Their next test? A daunting clash against high-flying Golden Eagles this Saturday.

Captain Nqobile Ndlovu summed up the squad’s mentality: “We want to build on this win. Points are crucial now – we need a string of positive results.”
