MWOS FC U19 unbeaten in two games

MWOS FC U19 preserved their unbeaten record in the Northern Region Soccer League’s second phase, grinding out a 1-all stalemate against Chegutu Pirates at Pfupajena Stadium on Saturday. This result follows another away point secured against Karoi United, solidifying their resilience on the road.

The Young Punters entered the clash with confidence, having edged the reverse fixture 2-1 earlier in the campaign and harbouring hopes of another victory over their rivals. However, despite dictating periods of play, they found themselves locked in a tense battle throughout the ninety minutes.

The deadlock was broken moments after the restart when promising newcomer Valentine Zvomuya announced his arrival in style, netting his maiden goal for MWOS FC U19 to put his side in the driving seat. His clinical finish from the penalty spot sparked hopes of securing maximum points in enemy territory.

Those hopes were dashed as Chegutu Pirates displayed commendable spirit to fight their way back into the contest. The hosts eventually found the crucial equaliser, forcing the game into a share of the spoils and denying MWOS FC U19 the victory their early second-half lead had promised.

An elated Valentine Zvomuya reflected on his debut strike post-match: “Absolutely buzzing to get off the mark for the team,” the youngster beamed. “Hopefully, it’s the first of many. I’m really settling in well here – the lads are top class and the coaching staff is brilliant. More to come, definitely.”

Stand-in head coach Hamilton Masumbuko acknowledged the defensive solidity shown but pinpointed the need for greater cutting edge. “Keeping clean sheets was an issue earlier, but we’ve now gone two games without conceding; that’s a positive foundation,” Masumbuko stated. “The next step is turning these solid away draws into wins. We need to be more ruthless in the final third to start collecting three points consistently.”

With the second round underway, MWOS FC U19 are now focused on building momentum. The challenge remains clear: converting their defensive stability and unbeaten run into winning form as they target an improved points haul in the remaining reverse fixtures. The squad’s spirit and resilience suggest they possess the character required for the task ahead.
