Ngoni Stadium Erupts as MWOS FC Stun Dynamos in Historic Victory

In what will surely go down as a landmark moment in Zimbabwean football, MWOS FC marked their first-ever Premier Soccer League (PSL) home fixture against giants Dynamos with a stirring 1-0 victory at the newly renovated Ngoni Stadium in Norton. The stadium was filled to capacity, buzzing with anticipation as fans turned out in full force to witness history in the making.

Sitting top of the table after Matchday 6, MWOS FC’s meteoric rise in their debut PSL season has already captured imaginations. To then face Dynamos — one of the league’s most storied and dominant sides, despite their disappointing season — was a true test of their ambition and quality.

The early exchanges saw both sides cautiously probing. In the 8th minute, Billy Veremu set up Mutyambizi on the edge of the box, but the shot drifted wide. That missed opportunity only seemed to ignite the home side, who began to play with growing confidence. In the 19th minute, a flowing move down the right saw Nigel Matinha link with Mutyambizi, who slipped the ball to Mudzuka. He picked out George, who unfortunately strayed offside.

On the brink of half-time, Claude Mapoka missed a golden opportunity, skying his effort from close range. Despite the missed chances, the belief in the stands never wavered.

Their persistence paid off in the 52nd minute. A pinpoint cross found Mapoka again, and this time, he made no mistake — launching a diving header past the Dynamos keeper. Ngoni Stadium erupted in jubilation as MWOS FC celebrated their first goal at their revamped fortress.

Dynamos launched waves of attacks in search of an equaliser, but goalkeeper Martin Mapisa stood firm, producing a string of superb saves — none more crucial than his 88th-minute stop from point-blank range. Mutyambizi then cleared the danger to seal a famous win.

MWOS FC’s inspiring start continues, and next up is a top-of-the-table clash against second-placed Simba Bhora — a test of champions in waiting.
