Queens of Character: MWOS FC Queens Respond with Resilience in Pre-Season Tournament
The MWOS FC Queens continue to build momentum ahead of the 2026 season, delivering a spirited response in their ongoing pre-season campaign at Ellis Robins.
Heading into the tournament with clear intent to sharpen fitness, chemistry, and tactical discipline, the Queens were drawn into Group B alongside Chitungwiza Queens and Herentals Queens, setting up a competitive start to their campaign.
The tournament opened with a challenging encounter against Chitungwiza Queens on 28 March. Despite showing glimpses of attacking intent and energy, the Queens fell to a 2–0 defeat in a match that exposed areas needing improvement, particularly in converting chances and maintaining control in key moments.
However, the response was immediate and impressive. In their second fixture of the day against Herentals Queens, MWOS FC Queens displayed resilience and character, bouncing back with a strong 2–0 victory. Goals from Grace Mubaira and Belinda Mutsauri highlighted a much-improved attacking display, while the overall performance showed better cohesion and confidence across the team.
The Queens continued their pre-season campaign facing Scottland in a tightly contested match that ended in a penalty shootout. MWOS FC Queens were narrowly edged out 6–7, a result that tested their nerves and highlighted their determination under pressure.
The Ellis Robins pre-season tournament, running from 28 March to 4 April, features strong opposition including Dynamos Queens, Black Mambas, ZRP Harare, and Harare City Juniors. For the Queens, it presents an important opportunity to test combinations, build match fitness, and fine-tune their approach ahead of the new season.
With mixed results so far, including a narrow penalty shootout loss, MWOS FC Queens remain focused as the group stage progresses. More importantly, the squad has consistently shown resilience and determination under pressure—a sign of a team growing in maturity and belief as preparations continue.
