Technical Director Wilson Mutekede Ascends to Elite FIFA Coach Educator Status

MWOS Football Club is thrilled to officially announce a monumental milestone for our technical department. Our esteemed Technical Director, Wilson Mutekede, has successfully secured the prestigious FIFA Coach Educator status, officially crossing the finish line of his rigorous development pathway in Rwanda this week.

The final phase of this internationally acclaimed programme concluded yesterday following an intensive week of elite footballing education. Mutekede rubbed shoulders with the continent’s finest, joining an exclusive cohort of just 18 participants handpicked from Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana, and Zambia for a comprehensive series of high-level workshops, tactical discussions, and demanding final assessments.

This latest feather in his cap builds upon an already stellar coaching pedigree. Fans will proudly recall that in 2023, immediately following the lifting of the FIFA suspension on Zimbabwean football, our technical director was selected as one of just 17 elite CAF instructors to undergo specialised continental training—a crucial stepping stone that paved the way for this global recognition.

Introduced by the sport’s global governing body three years ago, the FIFA Coach Educators Development Pathway is a master blueprint designed to revolutionise dugout standards and strengthen coaching ecosystems worldwide. The elite programme is tailor-made to arm experienced footballing minds with the modern tools required to mentor, educate, and mould the next generation of tacticians.

Mutekede’s journey to securing this coveted badge was an exhaustive, multi-layered process. The curriculum was meticulously broken down into six distinct phases to test every facet of a coach’s acumen. Candidates kicked off with a foundational e-learning module, followed by rigorous online sessions. The tactical groundwork then shifted to the grass with onsite training, which seamlessly transitioned into targeted onsite mentorship. The penultimate stage featured high-level online boarding calls before culminating in the pressure-cooker environment of the final onsite mentorship and assessment.

Reflecting on his elevation to this elite coaching fraternity, our technical director acknowledged the sheer intensity of the curriculum while highlighting the immense value of the ultimate reward.

“It has been quite a gruesome process, but it has been worth it,” Mutekede explained.

With his name now officially etched into FIFA’s registry, Mutekede holds the paramount title of FIFA Coach Educator. This role empowers him to be a direct catalyst for change, driving the training and development of touchline talent across the nation’s footballing pyramid.

For MWOS FC, this achievement is a massive coup that completely fortifies our internal technical structures and long-term sporting project. “Internally, this puts us in a very good position for training and working with our coaches, which will improve us as a family,” he stated, emphasising the immediate positive impact on the club’s dugout dynamics.

Beyond our own training ground, Mutekede sees this top-tier qualification as a golden opportunity to raise the bar for the entire Zimbabwean footballing landscape.

“It’s an international qualification, and we want to up MWOS FC standards as a team as we work on helping the nation at large and all the coaches as well,” Mutekede added.

This remarkable achievement is a true testament to MWOS FC’s unwavering commitment to technical excellence. We are immensely proud to invest in the education, tactical knowledge, and ultimate advancement of the beautiful game here in Zimbabwe.

MWOS FC also extends its sincere appreciation to FIFA and the Zimbabwe Football Association for facilitating and supporting such transformative coach education initiatives, which continue to elevate technical standards and contribute significantly to the development of football both in Zimbabwe and across the continent.

Congratulations to our very own, Wilson Mutekede!
