A BIG POINT ON THE ROAD: YOUNG PUNTERS HOLD DALNY FC
The Young Punters dug deep to secure a goalless draw against Dalny FC at Chakari Stadium, bringing home a valuable point from a demanding away fixture.
Playing in the famous Bwera Ufe/Huya Ufe atmosphere associated with Chakari Stadium, the Young Punters showed composure, resilience and character to withstand the pressure and leave with a share of the spoils.
The opening half produced an intense contest, with both sides showing attacking intent. MWOS goalkeeper Stanley Bembwe was called into action on several occasions, making crucial saves to keep the hosts at bay.
The Young Punters gradually found their rhythm and began creating opportunities of their own. Munyaradzi Chibvongodze came close after beating his marker on the flank, while another promising attack saw Tinashe Mavhunga deliver a dangerous cross into the box for Chibvongodze, whose effort struck the crossbar before the rebound was cleared.
The second half continued in much the same fashion, with MWOS displaying attacking intent while remaining disciplined defensively. Chibvongodze was again involved in a promising move before finding Mavhunga, whose effort was gathered by the Dalny goalkeeper.
As the clock ticked towards full-time, both teams pushed for the decisive goal. Tadiwa Zhou also came close after the referee played advantage following a foul on Chibvongodze, but his effort was comfortably saved.
Despite the late pressure, neither side could find the breakthrough, and the final whistle confirmed a 0–0 draw.
The result also carries a piece of MWOS history. The Young Punters have matched the achievement of the first-ever MWOS team in 2022, which also avoided defeat at Dalny FC after playing out a 1–1 draw.
More importantly, the Young Punters take four points from the two meetings with Dalny FC this season, having already secured victory in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign.
Speaking after the match, MWOS FC U17 Head Coach Tendai Nyathi praised his charges for their resilience and ability to adapt to the demanding conditions.
“The boys played very well. They continue to develop game by game and today they managed to adjust to the harsh pitch and managed to show character and intent throughout.”
Nyathi added:
“A point away from home with these conditions, I’m happy that the boys are developing and are playing very well.”
The performance at Chakari Stadium was another indication of the continued footballing evolution in Norton, with the Young Punters demonstrating their ability to compete, adapt and show character in challenging environments.
From the first MWOS side of 2022 avoiding defeat at Dalny to the current generation of Young Punters returning with another valuable point, the result adds another chapter to the growing football story in Norton.
