Africa Day Delight As MWOS FC U19 Secure Crucial Three Points

MWOS FC U19 produced a commanding display to secure a deserved 2-0 victory over Banket United on Africa Day, delighting the home supporters with a disciplined and energetic Matchday 11 performance.

From the opening whistle, the Young Punters imposed themselves on the contest with high-tempo football and confident movement across the pitch. The midfield trio of Walter Five, Timothy Kushata and Maseko combined fluently in the early exchanges, helping MWOS FC U19 dictate possession and transition sharply from defence into attack.

The hosts continued to threaten through coordinated attacking sequences, with Farai Dzingai and Timmy Kushata linking up dangerously on several occasions. Munyaradzi Rekanani also caused problems down the right flank with his direct running and dangerous deliveries into the box as Banket United struggled to settle into rhythm.

Despite the dominance, the breakthrough remained elusive during much of the first half. Tinashe Nyatsambo came close with an ambitious long-range strike. Meanwhile between the sticks, goalkeeper Guranungo stayed alert when called upon, reacting quickly to deny a powerful effort from the visitors and preserve parity.

The deadlock was finally broken late in the first half through Tanaka Maseko, who rose highest inside the box to power home a well-taken header and hand the Young Punters a deserved lead heading into the halftime break.

After the restart, MWOS FC U19 maintained their composure and continued to control proceedings with crisp passing and disciplined defensive work. Keith Handirade stood firm at the back with a composed defensive display, while Blessing Mazambani added fresh energy following his introduction in the second half.

The decisive moment arrived midway through the half when Timothy Kushata produced a moment of quality to double the advantage. After whipping in a dangerous delivery that unsettled the Banket United defence, Kushata reacted quickest to finish off the move and put the result firmly in MWOS FC U19’s control.

The technical bench later introduced Cleopas Masumbuko, Pardon Nyandoro and Prosper Mawoyo as the Young Punters professionally managed the closing stages of the encounter. Maseko nearly added a spectacular third late on with an audacious long-range attempt that narrowly sailed over the crossbar.

At fulltime, the Young Punters walked away with a deserved clean sheet and three important points after a mature and dominant display built on intensity, organisation and attacking intent.

A notable feature of the matchday was the strong unity across the MWOS FC technical structure, with coaches from all development sides regularly attending matches together and supporting one another on the sidelines. Coach Primrose Serima (Queens), Coach Wonder Ngoko (Under-19s, with Assistant Coach Peter Ngwenya stepping in during his absence), and Coach Tendai Nyathi (Under-17s) were all present, reflecting a shared commitment to player development and a connected club identity across all levels.

Coach Steven Wade praised the team’s discipline after the final whistle, saying: “I was pleased with how the boys followed instructions. They executed the game plan exactly as we wanted, and that made the difference today.”
