Early Doors Magic Eclipsed as Clinical Scottland Queens Punish MWOS FC Queens
MWOS FC Queens were ultimately left to rue a string of massive missed opportunities after suffering a harsh 4-1 defeat at the hands of a clinical Scottland Queens FC outfit at MWOS Ngoni Stadium on Sunday.
The hosts got off to an absolute flyer early doors, breaking the deadlock inside the opening sixty seconds of the tie.
Tawananyasha Mandishara was the early hero, finding the back of the net straight from the off to hand her side a dream start.
That instant breakthrough allowed the Queens to settle their nerves and confidently dictate the early tempo on home soil.
However, the visitors gradually weathered the storm, establishing a firm foothold in the middle of the park as they patiently searched for a route back into the game.
The hosts continued to look menacing from set-pieces, putting it right in the mixer during a brilliant attacking phase in the 19th minute.
Grace Mubaira whipped a venomous dead ball into the danger area, finding Mandishara who rose highest but could only guide her powerful header agonisingly over the crossbar.
That glaring missed opportunity ultimately proved incredibly costly against the run of play.
Scottland Queens immediately made the hosts pay, grabbing a 25th-minute equaliser to completely shift the momentum of the fixture.
The visitors then completed a ruthless first-half turnaround just five minutes before the interval, heading down the tunnel with a 2-1 advantage.
Looking to alter the complexion of the match, the dugout rolled the dice at the restart by introducing Palatial Makaruse and Kelly Kandemiri.
The substitutes instantly injected a much-needed surge of energy and attacking impetus, though the hosts consistently lacked a clinical finish in the final third.
Disaster struck ten minutes into the second period when an absolute howler at the back gifted the visitors a golden opportunity.
The referee pointed straight to the spot following a clumsy defensive error inside the penalty area.
Scottland Queens made absolutely no mistake from twelve yards, confidently converting the spot-kick to establish a commanding 3-1 cushion.
Desperately searching for a lifeline, the technical bench threw on Doreen Rugayo and Kutenda Mwaremedza to try and spark a late comeback.
Unfortunately, the visitors remained thoroughly organised and resolute, bagging a fourth goal in the 62nd minute to completely put the tie to bed.
Despite enjoying massive chunks of possession in the closing stages, the Queens simply could not find their shooting boots when it mattered most.
Scottland Queens effectively killed the game off, managing the dying embers with absolute professionalism to secure maximum points.
Delivering her post-match verdict, Head Coach Primrose Serima insisted she was largely pleased with the overall shift her players put in.
“The general performance was actually quite good, and I am happy that the girls played some fantastic football,” the gaffer noted.
“Unfortunately, we squandered a lot of massive chances, and in this league, you always get punished for not being clinical.”
Serima was also quick to highlight the ongoing selection headache caused by a severely depleted squad.
“It is incredibly unfortunate that we are missing several key players who are stuck in the treatment room,” she explained.
“We tried to bring in fresh faces to plug those gaps, and while it did not go our way today, we will get our heads down and continue to improve.”
While the heavy scoreline serves as a bitter pill to swallow, the Queens will undoubtedly take the positives from their attacking build-up as they look to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.
