Eight-Goal Demolition: Mandishara Hits Four as Queens Sign Off in Style
MWOS FC Queens emphatically concluded the first half of their Northern Region Women’s League campaign with a staggering 8-0 victory over Frankton Ladies at St Ericks High School ground on Sunday.
Carrying massive momentum from their recent victory over Chitungwiza Queens, the visitors wasted absolutely no time asserting their dominance on the road.
While Palatial Makaruse saw an early sighter sail just over the crossbar, the inevitable breakthrough arrived in the 13th minute. Tawananyasha Mandishara brilliantly won possession in the middle of the park, surged past her marker with immense pace, and calmly slotted the ball beyond the goalkeeper to open the floodgates.
The Queens continued to dictate the tempo and quickly turned the screw, doubling their advantage in the 22nd minute when Makaruse capped off a flowing attacking move with a remarkably composed finish.
Barely three minutes later, Tanaka Samanga showed brilliant tenacity to win back possession, immediately teeing up Mandishara to grab her second of the afternoon and make it 3-0.
The relentless pressure proved far too much for the Frankton backline, who conceded a penalty following a clumsy defensive error inside the box. Charlotte Chiyangwa stepped up to the spot and confidently dispatched the spot-kick to put the tie completely out of reach.
Playing absolute liquid football, Mandishara completed a sensational first-half hat-trick in the 38th minute. Makaruse found herself through on goal but opted for a highly unselfish square ball, allowing her strike partner to apply a simple tap-in.
The absolute onslaught wasn’t over before the interval. A slick passing move through the engine room ended with Samanga’s dangerous effort taking a massive deflection off a Frankton defender for an own goal.
Moments later, Samanga turned provider again, putting a pinpoint corner right into the mixer for Makaruse to attack. The forward met the delivery with a powerful header, sending the Queens down the tunnel with a jaw-dropping 7-0 advantage.
Looking to keep the intensity levels high, Head Coach Primrose Serima shuffled the pack at the break, introducing Stella Denya, Mercy Kuvenga, and Tadiwa Mudzana into the fray.
The dressing room maintained absolute control after the restart and were instantly rewarded with an eighth goal in the 55th minute.
Another defensive lapse from the hosts resulted in a second penalty of the afternoon. Mandishara stepped up and calmly converted from twelve yards, grabbing her fourth goal to cap off an absolute masterclass of an individual performance.
With the points well and truly in the bag, MWOS comfortably managed the remainder of the contest. The squad showcased immense tactical discipline to dominate possession and starve Frankton Ladies of any meaningful opportunities, securing a highly deserved clean sheet.
Delivering his post-match assessment, Goalkeepers Coach Blessing Mwandimutsira was absolutely buzzing with the squad’s professionalism and ruthlessness in the final third.
“We are absolutely delighted with the performance from the girls today; they showed the right attitude from the very first whistle, remained highly disciplined, and executed the game plan flawlessly,” Mwandimutsira noted.
He was particularly pleased with the balance across the pitch, adding, “It was brilliant to see the team create so many chances while also maintaining strict concentration defensively. This massive result is a fitting reward for the hard work the players have been putting in on the training ground.”
The clinical victory sends the Queens into the mid-season break bursting with confidence. The squad will now take a well-deserved rest to recover and regroup before returning to competitive action at the beginning of August as they look to build a formidable run in the second half of the campaign.
