MWOS FC’s thriving academy setup enjoyed a wildly productive weekend of friendly action on Saturday, further cementing the club’s commitment to ushering through the next generation of footballing talent.

Designed to provide the club’s promising starlets with vital match fitness and competitive experience, the day featured a trio of exciting fixtures that showcased the depth of the Young Punters’ developmental pipeline.

The matchday programme kicked off at MWOS Ngoni Stadium, where the Under-13s squared off against Rock Football Academy in an incredibly entertaining opening encounter.

Played over two 25-minute halves of proper end-to-end action, the tie provided the youngsters with a fantastic platform to test their developing footballing IQ.

The Young Punters displayed tremendous character throughout the clash, ultimately battling their way to a thrilling 3-3 stalemate.

Bevin Muriva opened his account early doors with a composed effort to get the hosts off the mark.

Divine Muringi quickly doubled down, finding the back of the net to add a second goal to the tally.

With the tie finely poised and the visitors fighting back, Muriva stepped up to the plate once again to bag a brilliant brace and ensure the spoils were shared at the full-time whistle.

The final fixture of the Saturday schedule saw the Under-17 side travel away to St Ericks High School grounds to face Better Ages FC.

The senior academy lads capped off the weekend in truly emphatic fashion, delivering an absolute footballing masterclass.

Putting the hosts to the sword with a ruthless attacking display, the Under-17s cruised to a staggering 8-0 victory.

Thembinkosi Gutuza was virtually unplayable in the final third, taking home the match ball after dismantling the opposition defence to score an incredible four goals.

Alexio Simon was heavily involved in the attacking onslaught as well, pitching in with a superb brace of his own.

Anesu Paradza added his name to the scoresheet with a well-taken strike to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Crespo Mbiriri then provided a clinical finish in the dying embers of the tie to complete the eight-goal demolition job.

Speaking after an incredibly fruitful day of academy football, Under-17 Head Coach Tendai Nyathi was absolutely buzzing with the progression evident across all age groups.

“These developmental fixtures are a massive part of our overarching strategy to properly evaluate the talent within our academy system,” the gaffer explained.

Nyathi was particularly pleased with how seamlessly the lads translated their training ground routines into live match scenarios.

“We are absolutely chuffed with the boys’ progress, and it is incredibly encouraging to see them successfully executing our footballing philosophy during proper competitive minutes,” he added.
