History Repeats as Young Punters Dominate Izinduna in 4-1 Victory
MWOS FC U17 delivered a commanding performance at St Eric Secondary School, defeating Izinduna 4-1 in an entertaining ZIFA Mash West Division 2B Eastern League encounter that showcased the growing confidence and attacking identity of the Young Punters.
From the opening whistle, the U17s asserted themselves with purpose and composure, moving the ball with authority and pinning the visitors back through patient build-up play and energetic movement in the final third. Early warning signs came through Carlos Mutapiri and Tinashe Mafunga, both testing the Izinduna defence as the home side searched for a breakthrough.
The deadlock was finally broken in spectacular fashion in the 17th minute when Alex Matariro produced a moment of pure audacity. Standing over a corner kick, the youngster caught everyone off guard by curling the ball directly into the net, sending the home bench into celebration and giving the Young Punters a deserved lead.
Buoyed by the opener, MWOS FC U17 continued to dictate the tempo with clever passing sequences and confident attacking patterns. Tashinga Shamunyarira and Ralph Charuma repeatedly caused problems in wide areas, while Stanley T. Bembwe remained alert at the other end, commanding his box confidently whenever called upon.
The hosts doubled their advantage on the stroke of halftime through Ralph Charuma, who capped off a dominant first-half display with a composed finish to give MWOS FC U17 a two-goal cushion heading into the break.
Izinduna responded after halftime and pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 48th minute, briefly shifting the momentum and forcing the Young Punters to dig deep during a tense spell of the contest. However, the home side showed maturity beyond their years, regaining control through disciplined possession and intelligent movement.
Coach Nyathi’s substitutions proved influential as the match progressed. Admire Mangoma, introduced in the second half, made an immediate impact by finding the back of the net to restore the Young Punters’ two-goal advantage and settle nerves around St Eric Secondary School.
As the game opened up in the closing stages, the Young Punters continued to entertain. Carlos Mutapiri produced one of the afternoon’s lighter moments with a piece of dazzling skill that lifted the crowd, while the attacking pressure never relented.
Ralph Charuma then sealed the result in the 85th minute with his second goal of the afternoon, putting the result beyond doubt and wrapping up an impressive afternoon for the hosts.
Speaking after the match, Coach Nyathi expressed satisfaction with both the performance and mentality shown by his side.
“I am pleased with the way the boys approached the game today,” Nyathi said. “They showed confidence on the ball, discipline without it, and a real hunger to compete from start to finish. Performances like this show the direction we are moving in as a team.”
The victory continues a strong run of form for the Young Punters, whose growing chemistry and fearless attacking football are beginning to make a statement in the division.
