Magondo Magic Seals Vital Victory for the Punters

MWOS FC returned to winning ways at a bouncing MWOS Ngoni Stadium, securing a 1-0 victory over Chicken Inn FC. After a dominant display of possession and tactical discipline, the deadlock was finally shattered by a moment of individual brilliance that sent the home faithful into raptures.

From the opening whistle, The Punters dictated the tempo, with Wilson Mensah proving to be a constant thorn in the visitors’ side. His scintillating 23rd-minute solo run, which saw him dance through the “Gamecocks” defence, set the tone for an afternoon where MWOS FC camped in the opposition half and asked constant questions of their backline.

The midfield engine room, marshalled by the tireless Clive Kwangwari and the creative Tinotenda Mutyambizi, ensured that Tedious Baye remained largely a spectator for much of the first half. The defensive unit, led by a colossal performance from Reginald Chinemo, Innocent Zambezi, Godfrey Manase and Valentine Katsande, snuffed out any hint of a counter-attack, allowing the hosts to sustain relentless pressure.

Despite the dominance, the elusive opener seemed just out of reach as Clive Kwangwari and Valentine Katsande combined beautifully for several fluid attacking sequences. The stadium held its breath in the 60th minute when a slick one-touch passing move involving Tinotenda Mutyambizi saw Kwangwari’s effort flash agonisingly wide of the upright.

The turning point arrived in the 71st minute following the introduction of Principe Magondo. Standing over a free-kick on the edge of the area, the “supersub” stepped up and unleashed a trademark piece of magic. His effort curled with venom over the wall and into the back of the net, leaving the visitors’ goalkeeper rooted to the spot and breaking the stalemate in spectacular fashion.

In the closing stages, the technical bench introduced Billy Veremu and Marcelline Mlilo to provide fresh legs and ensure there were no late hiccups. The disciplined defensive structure held firm, ensuring that Magondo’s moment of quality was enough to secure all three points and a well-deserved clean sheet.

Speaking after the final whistle, Head Coach Lloyd Mutasa praised the impact of his substitute and the resilience of the squad. “We won through the brilliance of Principe Magondo; I told him to go and play his game, and he did just that,” Mutasa noted. “After losing our last home game, we had to bounce back and win this one, so I am very happy with the boys.” 🔵⚪🏆
