Martin Mapisa: A Journey of Resilience and Ambition Joins MWOS FC
In the ever-evolving world of football, few stories capture the essence of determination and ambition quite like that of Martin Mapisa. The Zimbabwean goalkeeper, whose journey spans continents and tiers, has emerged as a beacon of resilience and is now poised to make waves with MWOS FC in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
Mapisa’s football journey began at Aces Youth Soccer Academy in Harare—an institution known for producing stars like Marvellous Nakamba. In 2018, he took a bold step to Spain, starting with CD Almuñécar in the regional leagues. His talent earned him a move to Vélez CF in the Tercera División (Spain’s fourth tier) before joining Zamora CF in 2020, where he refined his skills against gritty semi-professional competition.
In March 2024, Mapisa returned home, signing a two-year deal with Dynamos FC following Taimon Mvula’s departure to Simba Bhora. The 25-year-old’s arrival reflects Dynamos’ ambition to blend youth and experience, with Mapisa expected to anchor their defense.
Beyond club football, Mapisa has been a key figure for Zimbabwe’s U-23 team. He earned his senior debut on March 29, 2021, in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Zambia. In November 2023, he was called up for World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria, affirming his status as one of Zimbabwe’s most dependable goalkeepers.
