Match Preview: Young Punters Return Home Looking to Bounce Back Against Marere FC

After suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat away to FC Oden in Chinhoyi, MWOS FC U19 return to familiar surroundings this Sunday determined to respond with a statement performance when they host Marere FC in Matchday 18 of the MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League.

The Young Punters will be eager to put yesterday’s disappointment behind them in front of their home supporters at MWOS Ngoni Stadium, with Head Coach Wonder Ngoko confident that the performances his side has been producing will soon translate into results.

Despite leaving Chinhoyi empty-handed, MWOS FC U19 delivered one of their most encouraging displays of the season. The visitors controlled large spells of the encounter, created several chances and showed tremendous character after falling behind early.

Sunday’s fixture presents another opportunity for the Young Punters to return to winning ways and continue climbing the Northern Region Soccer League table.

The two sides come into Matchday 18 separated by just three points in the standings. MWOS FC U19 occupy 20th place with 17 points from 17 matches, while Marere FC sit 22nd on 14 points.

Although the Young Punters have picked up just one win in their last five league outings, their recent performances have been far more encouraging than the results suggest. Wonder Ngoko’s side has shown resilience, attacking intent and improved confidence, qualities they will be looking to build on this weekend.

Marere FC have also found victories difficult to come by, recording one win, two draws and two defeats in their last five matches . With both teams eager to move away from the foot of the table, Sunday’s encounter promises to be a fiercely contested battle.

Marere FC arrive looking to frustrate the hosts, but the U19s will draw confidence from the quality shown in recent performances. Players such as Leeroy Zhawu, Patrick Manyoni, Kean Maravanyika, Tanaka Maseko and Blessing Mazambani have all demonstrated their ability to influence matches, while the squad’s depth has continued to grow with impactful contributions from the bench.

With home support behind them, the Young Punters know that three points would not only bring an immediate response to yesterday’s defeat but also create valuable momentum heading into the second half of the campaign.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s clash, Head Coach Wonder Ngoko believes his side is ready to bounce back.

“The mood is positive. We know we played well in our last match even though we didn’t get the result we wanted. The players have worked hard this week, and we’re focused on putting in another strong performance. Marere will be a difficult opponent, but playing at home gives us extra motivation. We want to be more clinical in front of goal, reward our supporters with a victory and continue showing the progress this team is making.”

The Young Punters will now be aiming to turn promising performances into three points as they look to make a statement on home soil.
