MWOS FC U19 Fight Back to Earn a Point Against Ngezi Stars U19
We demonstrated tremendous fighting spirit to recover from a two-goal deficit and earn a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Ngezi Stars U19 at MWOS Ngoni Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Following an evenly contested opening period where both sides looked to establish a rhythm, the visitors took the advantage in the 20th minute via a penalty. Ngezi Stars U19 managed to extend their lead shortly after, putting our boys under significant early pressure.
However, we responded with immense positivity. In the 41st minute, Kushata Timmy showed excellent vision to lay the ball back to the edge of the box, where midfielder Chapfika Ryan made no mistake, firing decisively into the net to cut the deficit. We headed into the half-time break trailing 2-1, but with the momentum firmly shifting in our favour.
We came out of the blocks with clear intent immediately after the restart and were rewarded almost instantly. Just moments after the second-half whistle, Kushata turned from provider to goalscorer, brilliantly lifting the ball over the Ngezi Stars U19 goalkeeper to bring us completely level at 2-2.
The equalizer injected renewed belief into the squad as we pushed relentlessly for a winning goal. Maseko Tanaka came agonizingly close to completing the turnaround, seeing an effort from a tight angle on the left edge of the box sail over by mere inches. Shortly after, Chapfika delivered a dangerous cross from the left, but Maseko’s resulting header narrowly cleared the crossbar.
While we dominated the attacking phases, Guranungo Tawedzerwa remained sharply alert between the posts, comfortably gathering a dangerous shot from the left to keep the visitors at bay.
Our attacking threats continued to mount as the half progressed. Mazambani Blessing tested the opposition goalkeeper from distance before delivering an excellent cross from the right to find Chapfika, whose resulting effort was ultimately saved. Seeking fresh energy to maintain the pressure, we made our first substitution in the 70th minute, introducing Ephraim Terrence for Mawoyo Prosper.
In the closing stages, Muza Taylor nearly snatched the victory, narrowly missing the target after latching onto a long ball from Maseko and later firing just over the bar. Despite late, sustained pressure—highlighted by a dangerous combination inside the box between Mazambani, Zhawu Leeroy, and Kushata, the decisive goal proved elusive, leaving the final score at 2-2.
Speaking after the match on behalf of Head Coach Wonder Ngoko, Coach Serima expressed his immense satisfaction with the squad’s character and fighting spirit.
“I’m pleased with the way the boys responded after going two goals down because it showed character and belief,” Serima noted.
“We managed to find our way back into the game and created chances to win it, so we take the positives from the comeback and continue working on the areas that need improvement.”
The result secures a well-deserved point from a fixture that thoroughly tested our resilience, proving that this squad has the mental fortitude to fight until the final whistle.
