MWOS FC U19 Held to Goalless Draw by Karoi United

MWOS FC Under-19 were held to a 0-0 draw by Karoi United at MWOS Ngoni Stadium in a match where both sides created openings but neither could find the finish required to separate them.

The Young Punters began with intent, looking to make use of their width and movement in the attacking third.

Dzingai Farai’s delivery took a deflection off a Karoi defender before falling to Mazambani Blessing, who attempted to finish from a tight angle.

Mawoyo Prosper reacted to the loose ball and almost found the net, but the flag was raised for offside.

Kassim Abdulrahman also looked to advance the team from deep, sending a long lofted ball forward that was gathered by the Karoi goalkeeper.

Mazambani continued to provide an outlet in midfield, combining with Giya Tinashe, who repeatedly looked to deliver from the right.

One of Giya’s early crosses caused problems in the Karoi penalty area, although neither Kushata Timmy nor Mawoyo could make contact with the ball.

Giya went close to creating another opportunity from a free-kick, picking out Kushata, whose header cleared the crossbar.

The Young Punters continued to probe, with Dzingai driving through midfield before finding Kushata, who carried the move forward and fired narrowly wide.

Karoi gradually found opportunities of their own, forcing Takunda Manomano into a full-stretch save to keep out a curling effort from distance.

The visitors were handed a major opportunity after the interval when they were awarded a penalty.

Manomano responded with composure, diving to his left to keep out the spot-kick and preserve the scoreline.

The goalkeeper’s intervention was followed by another important defensive moment.

A loose ball spilled by Manomano fell dangerously inside the area, but Keith Handirade positioned himself on the goal line to prevent it from crossing.

Handirade remained influential when Karoi threatened again, racing back to interrupt a one-on-one attack before the visitors attempted to create another opening from the opposite side.

Manomano was once again alert, saving an attempt aimed at putting the ball across the face of goal.

At the other end, the U19s continued to search for a breakthrough through a mixture of direct running and patient build-up.

Maravanyika Kean tested the Karoi goalkeeper from distance, while Muza Taylor came close after another promising attacking move.

A well-constructed sequence involving Kushata and Mazambani opened the space for a shot, but the effort was saved before Muza’s follow-up went over the crossbar.

The Young Punters made their first changes of the afternoon in the second half, with Darkeni and Five Walter introduced for Dzingai and Mawoyo.

Five quickly settled into the attacking rhythm, receiving a fast pass from Darkeni before getting a shot away that was saved.

Mazambani remained a constant threat on the right, racing forward before finding Kushata, whose slight touch sent the ball narrowly wide of the target.

Zvomuya Valentine was introduced late in place of Kushata as the Young Punters continued to push for a winning goal.

The final opportunity came in the closing stages when Muza delivered a lofted ball towards Maravanyika, whose header was saved by the Karoi goalkeeper.

Alex Matariro maintained his position on the left throughout the contest, providing defensive cover while supporting MWOS FC U19’s attempts to build from that side.

Giya combined his responsibilities on the right with a willingness to deliver dangerous balls into the penalty area, while also providing a threat from set-pieces.

Handirade and Kassim formed the central defensive partnership, with Handirade’s goal-line intervention standing out during a period of pressure from Karoi.

Maravanyika and Muza provided the midfield platform for the Young Punters, contributing to the build-up while also looking for opportunities to test the visitors’ defence.

Dzingai offered direct running before his substitution, while Mazambani remained involved in several of the U19s’ most promising attacking sequences.

Kushata occupied the central attacking areas and came closest on several occasions, particularly through aerial opportunities and his movement into the box.

Mawoyo worked alongside Kushata in the forward areas before making way for Five Walter.

Darkeni and Five Walter added fresh energy after their introduction, with Five immediately forcing a save.

Zvomuya entered for the closing stages as MWOS FC U19 continued to look for a way through.

The result means the Young Punters take a point from an encounter in which Manomano’s penalty save and Handirade’s goal-line intervention proved just as significant as the attacking opportunities created at the other end.

Speaking after the match, Assistant Coach Peter Ngwenya acknowledged the quality of the performance while pointing to the physical demands beginning to affect the squad.

“It was a good performance, but I think fatigue is now creeping in.”

The draw leaves MWOS FC Under-19 with another point to build on as the campaign moves towards its closing stages.

For a young squad continuing to balance development with the demands of competitive football, the afternoon offered another test of their organisation, resilience and ability to create opportunities against a disciplined opponent.
