MWOS FC U-19 head coach Wonder Ngoko believes the competitive environment of the Northern Region Soccer League has played a key role in preparing the Young Punters for the ZIFA Munhumutapa Cup.
The Young Punters booked their place in the Round of 32 after edging Chapungu FC 1-0 at Ascot Stadium in Gweru last weekend.
MWOS FC U-19 are among the teams that have progressed to the elite stage of the country’s biggest knockout competition, with the Round of 32 draw set to be conducted soon.
Speaking after the victory, Ngoko said competing in one of Zimbabwe’s toughest leagues has strengthened his team’s mentality and resilience.
“The Northern Region Soccer League features a lot of big teams, and the competition ranks high up there on the list of the most competitive leagues in the country,” said Ngoko.
“Black Rhinos, Harare City, Banket United, Cranborne Bullets and Black Mambas, among other teams in the NRSL, can compete against the best teams in the country.
“We are exposed to that high level of competition every week, and I think it has helped prepare the boys mentally and built their resilience going into the ZIFA Munhumutapa Cup.
“Every team in the league wants to compete, and those battles continue to help us grow as a team.
“Our league matches have shaped the boys both mentally and tactically, allowing us to approach every game with confidence while learning from each previous performance.
“I really believe we are going to go far in this tournament because of that strong foundation.”
The Young Punters will now turn their attention to the Round of 32 as they look to continue their impressive run in the ZIFA Munhumutapa Cup.
