Perfect Start to the Second Round as MWOS FC U19 Defeat Harare City
MWOS FC U19 marked the start of the second half of the season with an impressive 2-0 victory over Harare City at MWOS Ngoni Stadium.
The Young Punters produced an energetic performance, combining solid defending with purposeful attacking play to claim all three points on home soil.
The opening exchanges were played at a high tempo, with both sides creating opportunities in an entertaining contest.
Goalkeeper Guranungo Rashy provided an early reminder of his quality, producing a crucial save inside the opening minutes before going on to command his area confidently throughout the afternoon, including a brilliant stop from a second-half corner.
The defensive unit stood firm whenever called upon, with Zhawu Leeroy, Keith Handirade and Ryan Chapfika combining well to repel Harare City’s attacks and protect the clean sheet.
Tinashe Nyatsambo enjoyed an excellent afternoon on the left side of defence, providing a constant attacking outlet and helping initiate several dangerous forward moves while remaining solid defensively.
In midfield, Walter Five controlled the rhythm of the game with a composed and intelligent display, linking defence and attack while helping the Young Punters dominate possession for long spells.
Kean Maravanyika worked tirelessly to break up opposition attacks and provided important balance in the middle of the park.
Blessing Mazambani showed composure in possession and played an important role in several attacking sequences before making way in the second half.
Prosper Mawoyo dictated play from midfield with his passing range, including several accurate long balls that stretched the Harare City defence before his afternoon was cut short by injury.
Timmy Kushata proved a constant threat throughout the match and deservedly opened the scoring with a brilliant individual effort, driving into the penalty area before finishing confidently in the 20th minute.
Tanaka Maseko led the line with energy and intelligent movement, doubling the U19s advantage after rounding the goalkeeper and calmly finishing into an empty net just four minutes after the opener.
The home side continued to create opportunities after the break, with Kushata, Walter Five and Maseko all testing the visitors as MWOS FC U19 maintained control of the contest.
Walter Five also came close to adding his name to the scoresheet after breaking beyond the goalkeeper, while Kushata forced another good save with a powerful long-range strike early in the second half.
The bench also made a valuable contribution, with Farai Dzingai, Tinashe Giya, Tendai Chisenzere, Terrence Ephraim and Nyamhandu Dembele B bringing fresh energy and helping the team see out the victory professionally.
The match was fiercely contested throughout, with Prosper Mawoyo, Timmy Kushata and Zhawu Leeroy all receiving yellow cards as the Young Punters matched Harare City’s intensity without losing control of the contest.
The clean sheet reflected the collective commitment of every player, with Rashy, the backline and the midfield working tirelessly to frustrate the visitors from the first whistle to the last.
Speaking after the match, Head Coach Wonder Ngoko praised his team’s performance following a positive start to the second half of the campaign.
