Progress on Display as MWOS FC U17 Draw at Afrochine
MWOS FC U17 shared the spoils with Afrochine FC after a 1-1 draw at Afrochine Grounds, in a contest that offered encouraging signs of improvement for the visitors.
Tadiwa Zhou put MWOS FC U17 ahead in the 26th minute, converting from the penalty spot to give his side an advantage they would fight to protect.
MWOS FC U17 showed greater promise than in their previous two outings, creating opportunities and building promising attacking moves, although a failure to convert their chances kept the contest within reach for the hosts.
Zhou remained influential in the attacking third, shifting markers and delivering dangerous balls into the box, while Munyaradzi Chibvongodze also made valuable contributions during attacking phases.
Mashava worked hard to create opportunities for Tevez Ncube, who tested the Afrochine goalkeeper with three shots after coming on for Nqobile.
Edson impressed with his ability to drive the ball forward, producing promising long passes to help MWOS FC U17 advance up the pitch, while Mandeya combined well with his teammates at left-back.
Garry made important defensive contributions, particularly with his clearances, but his afternoon ended prematurely when he was sent off in the closing stages.
Between the posts, Fabian Jacha delivered an impressive performance, producing important saves to earn the Man of the Match accolade and keep the U17s in contention.
However, periods of lost possession in critical areas and missed opportunities prevented MWOS FC U17 from establishing a more comfortable advantage.
Afrochine eventually drew level from the penalty spot with only a few minutes remaining, leaving MWOS FC U17 to settle for a point after a competitive encounter.
Reflecting on the performance, coach Hammington Masumbuko welcomed the improvement shown by his side following their previous two matches.
“It was a good game to watch, from our previous two games, we were down, but this one we were better,” Masumbuko said.
The coach also highlighted the importance of giving players opportunities as the season approaches its conclusion.
“We are trying for everyone to get enough game time as we wrap up this season,” he added.
For MWOS FC U17, the draw offers encouragement, with the improved display providing a foundation to build on as the team looks to sharpen its finishing and maintain greater control in possession.
