Punters’ double blow not enough as Hardrock stage dramatic comeback

MWOS FC suffered a frustrating 3–2 defeat to Hardrock FC in Matchday 32 of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League at Chahwanda Stadium on Sunday, despite producing a promising performance and establishing a two-goal advantage.

The Punters made a bright start to the encounter, taking the lead in the 10th minute through Arthur Banda, who found the back of the net to put the visitors in front. MWOS FC carried their advantage into the half-time break after a disciplined first-half display.

The visitors resumed the second half with intent and extended their lead in the 57th minute when Nigel Makumbe struck to make it 2–0, putting the Punters in a commanding position as they looked to secure maximum points on the road.

However, the hosts mounted a spirited comeback, pulling one back in the 62nd minute before finding the equaliser in the 75th minute. With the contest finely poised heading into the closing stages, Hardrock FC struck again in the 89th minute to complete the turnaround and snatch all three points.

Despite the disappointing result, MWOS FC showed attacking quality and the ability to create opportunities, but were ultimately punished as Hardrock capitalised on their second-half resurgence.

Speaking after the match, MWOS FC head coach Lloyd Mutasa acknowledged the quality of the contest and the disappointment of letting the lead slip.

“It was a good game. We took the lead; we should have taken three points, but such is football. We take the lessons,” said Mutasa.

The result will be a bitter pill to swallow for the Punters, who looked firmly on course for victory after establishing a two-goal cushion. However, MWOS FC will look to take valuable lessons from the encounter as they shift their focus to their next assignment against Ngezi Platinum FC at MWOS Ngoni Stadium, where they will be eager to bounce back.
