Rampant Queens Hit Guruve Starlets for Six in Ruthless Display
MWOS FC Queens were at their scintillating best on Sunday, 6 September, brushing aside Guruve Starlets 6-0 at MWOS Ngoni Stadium in a one-sided Matchday 15 encounter that showcased the growing confidence within Primrose Serima’s side.
From the opening whistle, the Queens seized control of proceedings, dictating the tempo with slick passing, intelligent movement and relentless attacking intent. Guruve struggled to cope with the hosts’ intensity as MWOS repeatedly carved open the visitors’ defence.
It did not take long for the breakthrough to arrive.
A perfectly weighted pass from Tawananyasha Mandishara released Palatial Makaruse, who kept her composure to slot home and hand the Queens an early advantage.
The opener lifted the home side even further.
Mandishara soon turned goalscorer herself, weaving past her marker before calmly finding the back of the net to double MWOS FC’s lead. With confidence flowing through the side, the Queens continued to dominate possession and pinned Guruve deep inside their own half.
Makaruse bagged her second of the afternoon with another clinical finish before Mandishara completed her brace, sending the Queens into the interval with a commanding 4-0 advantage.
Any hopes of a Guruve resurgence after the break were quickly extinguished.
Although the visitors’ goalkeeper produced several impressive saves to limit further damage, MWOS FC never eased off the accelerator. The Queens continued to move the ball with purpose, stretching their opponents and creating chances at will.
Makaruse eventually completed a superb hat-trick in style, rounding the goalkeeper before coolly rolling the ball into an empty net to cap another outstanding individual display.
There was still time for Doreen Rugayo to add the finishing touch, rifling home the sixth goal to complete a ruthless afternoon for the hosts.
While the attacking display stole the headlines, the clean sheet was equally pleasing for Head Coach Primrose Serima, whose side once again demonstrated discipline and organisation without the ball.
“I am very happy with the performance of the girls today. They showed character, they managed to keep a clean sheet and they played very, very well. We managed to get the early goals, which gave us confidence and allowed us to control the game,” said Serima.
The Queens also showcased the strength of their squad, with every substitution helping maintain the intensity and ensuring the team’s attacking rhythm never dropped.
By the time the final whistle sounded, MWOS FC had produced a complete performance, a display built on fluid attacking football, clinical finishing and defensive solidity.
With momentum firmly on their side, the Queens now shift their focus to Harare City Juniors, eager to carry the same confidence and ruthless edge into their next Northern Region Women’s Soccer League assignment.
