Second-Half Surge Fires Queens to Victory
MWOS FC Queens produced a composed second-half display to secure a convincing 3-0 victory over Harare City Queens Cubs on Sunday, 13 September, in a Match Day 15 encounter of the Northern Region Women’s Soccer League at Alex Sports Ground.
The opening 45 minutes proved to be a tightly contested affair, with both sides enjoying spells of possession and creating opportunities in the final third. The Queens looked dangerous going forward, but neither side could find the decisive touch in front of goal as the game remained goalless at the interval.
The deadlock was finally broken four minutes after the restart when Tanaka Samanga stepped up to take a free kick from the right flank. She delivered a superb effort that sailed directly into the net, giving the Queens the breakthrough and a 1-0 advantage.
MWOS FC Queens quickly doubled their lead just two minutes later after winning another free kick. Grace Mubaira took responsibility from the set piece and made no mistake, producing a precise strike that found the back of the net to put the Queens firmly in control at 2-0.
With momentum firmly on their side, the Queens continued to dictate possession while remaining disciplined defensively. They also continued to threaten in attack, looking to put the contest beyond doubt.
Their persistence paid off in the 62nd minute. Betty Pasipadana won possession in midfield before releasing a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Tawananyasha Mandishara. The forward showed composure under pressure, racing through on goal before calmly rounding the challenge and slotting the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 3-0.
The three-goal cushion allowed the Queens to manage the remainder of the contest with confidence. They controlled possession, moved the ball with purpose and maintained their defensive shape as Harare City Queens Cubs struggled to find a way back into the game.
The referee eventually brought proceedings to an end, confirming a deserved 3-0 victory for the Queens and another valuable three points in their Northern Region Women’s Soccer League campaign.
Speaking after the match, MWOS FC Queens assistant coach Cephas Mugurasave acknowledged the difficulty of the opening half but praised the team for showing character and becoming more clinical after the break.
“The first half wasn’t easy, but we managed to take advantage of the chances we created in the second half and became clinical in front of goal. The girls played very well and they managed to show character, and we are happy we collected three more points.”
The focus now shifts to the next assignment, with the Queens set to return to MWOS Ngoni Stadium next weekend where they will host Dynamos Queens FC.
