Young Punters Continue Development Journey in Academy Friendlies
Our commitment to nurturing the next generation of footballing talent continued on Sunday, 19 July, as our Under-13 and Under-15 squads took part in a series of highly beneficial developmental friendly matches against Black Eagles Academy at MWOS Ngoni Stadium.
These fixtures formed a crucial part of our ongoing player development programme, specifically designed to expose the Young Punters to competitive match situations.
Beyond the final scorelines, the primary focus remained heavily on reinforcing technical ability, tactical awareness, football language, and our core MWOS FC philosophy of developing complete, well-rounded footballers.
The morning kicked off with our Under-13s taking on the Black Eagles Academy Under-13 squad in a fiercely competitive encounter played over two 30-minute halves.
Despite showing highly encouraging passages of play and immense determination throughout the contest, our Young Punters ultimately fell to a 4-1 defeat against a clinical visiting side.
A major positive from the match was a brilliant consolation goal from the exciting McClarren Anotidaishe Chicheko, who found the back of the net with a superbly taken finish to reward the boys for their relentless efforts on the pitch.
Attention then immediately shifted to the Under-15s, who produced another highly disciplined and tactical performance against their Black Eagles counterparts.
Our Young Punters were heavily rewarded for their attacking intent midway through the contest when Tinevimbo Banda was brought down inside the penalty area, giving the referee absolutely no option but to point to the spot.
Annel Antonia stepped up with immense confidence and calmly converted the penalty to hand our Under-15s a thoroughly deserved lead.
The visitors, however, continued to push forward in search of an equaliser and eventually found a late breakthrough in the closing stages, ensuring the contest finished 1-1 after a very evenly balanced and entertaining encounter.
While the results provided incredibly valuable lessons, every single minute on the pitch served as a golden opportunity to sharpen technical skills, improve decision-making under pressure, and further embed the football principles that define our academy.
Speaking after the Under-13, 15, and 17 matches, Head Coach Tendai Nyathi reiterated that long-term development remains our absolute top priority.
“These friendly matches were organised to perfectly test our philosophy of player development,” the head coach explained.
“If we win, it shows the players are applying what we are teaching, and that is fantastic for our philosophy. If we lose, we still gain valuable experience that helps the boys grow as footballers.”
Nyathi also highlighted the absolute importance of exposing the academy players to diverse challenges as they continue their football education.
“Every match is another crucial learning opportunity; our absolute focus is to equip these young players with the skills, football language, tactical understanding, and character they need to continue progressing within the MWOS FC philosophy,” Nyathi concluded.
This latest round of academy friendlies once again heavily underlines our long-term vision of prioritising development over results, ensuring our Young Punters continue to grow both individually and collectively with every opportunity they receive.
