Young Punters Grind Out Narrow Away Win Over Mhondoro Ngezi FC

MWOS FC U17 secured a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Mhondoro Ngezi FC in an away league encounter played at Mamina Ground on Sunday afternoon.

The match kicked off at 2:30pm, with both sides battling for control on a challenging playing surface that made free-flowing football difficult.

The Young Punters settled into the game well and enjoyed more of the possession during the opening stages.

Their first real opportunity came in the eighth minute when Alex Matariro’s inswinging corner from the right struck the top of the crossbar.

Goalkeeper Tawanda Jacha was then called into action, bravely rushing off his line to deny a dangerous attack after colliding with the advancing forward.

As the first half progressed, the U17s continued to threaten through their attacking combinations.

Munyaradzi Chibvongodze produced a well-weighted pass to Crespo Mbiriri, whose effort went wide before the resulting corner was cleared by the hosts.

Jacha remained alert throughout the half, producing another important save from a free-kick before the teams went into the break with the score still level.

The Young Punters resumed the second half with the same attacking intent.

Carlos Mutapiri and Garry Gavheni both tested the goalkeeper with efforts from distance as we searched for the breakthrough.

Coach Tendai Nyathi introduced Admire Mangoma midway through the second half in place of Tinashe Mafunga to add fresh legs to the attack.

Jacha once again proved his value, putting his body on the line to block a dangerous effort and preserve the clean sheet.

Another change saw Anesu Paradza replace Munyaradzi Chibvongodze as the Young Punters continued to push forward.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 82nd minute.

Crespo Mbiriri threaded a perfectly weighted pass through the defence to find Ralph Charuma, who remained calm before slotting past the goalkeeper to hand us a deserved lead.

The hosts searched for an equaliser late on, but Jacha confidently punched away a dangerous corner before the defence completed the clearance.

The Young Punters nearly doubled their advantage when Carlos Mutapiri lifted an excellent ball over the defence for Admire Mangoma, whose effort drifted wide of the target.

The Young Punters remained disciplined in the closing stages to see out an important away victory.

Jacha produced a commanding display in goal with several crucial saves and brave interventions.

Ralph Charuma capped off a tireless display with a composed finish that ultimately secured all three points for the Young Punters.
