Young Punters Hit Five Against Chegutu Town FC

MWOS FC U17 scored four times after the break to turn a competitive contest into a 5–1 victory over Chegutu Town FC at MWOS Ngoni Stadium.

The Young Punters created several openings in the first half, with Nqobile Ndlovu testing the goalkeeper from distance and Mashava also threatening in front of goal.

Despite MWOS FC U17 creating the better chances, Chegutu Town FC found the breakthrough in the 34th minute.

Munyaradzi Chibvongodze restored parity four minutes later, converting from the penalty spot to send the sides into the interval at 1–1.

The second half began with a change in the scoreline as Ndlovu delivered a cross into the box for Tadiwa Zhou, who headed home in the 47th minute to put MWOS FC U17 in front.

Zhou doubled his tally soon afterwards, combining with Chibvongodze inside the penalty area before finishing to make it 3–1.

Chibvongodze then added his second goal of the afternoon in the 68th minute, driving a powerful, low free-kick into the net.

The forward completed his hat-trick in the 76th minute, taking his season tally to six goals, with three assists to his name.

The result reflected MWOS FC U17’s improved finishing after half-time, although head coach Tendai Nyathi was keen to acknowledge the challenge posed by their opponents.

Nyathi praised Chegutu Town FC for the level of competition they provided, noting that the two sides featured players of a similar age group.

“We played a team from Chegutu which I think had a good age group, the same as our kids,” Nyathi said.

“They gave us a good run despite us scoring a lot of goals.”

The coach’s remarks highlighted the value of the contest beyond the scoreline, with Chegutu Town FC providing a competitive test despite the eventual four-goal margin.

For the Young Punters, Zhou’s brace and Chibvongodze’s hat-trick accounted for all five goals in a performance that saw them find the net repeatedly after the interval.
