Young Punters Hold Second-Placed FC Moyomutema to a Goalless Draw
Our MWOS FC U17 squad produced a highly disciplined and determined performance to earn a well-deserved 0-0 draw against second-placed FC Moyomutema at MWOS Ngoni Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Young Punters matched our high-flying visitors step for step throughout an evenly contested encounter.
The boys enjoyed excellent spells of possession and put together several impressive passing combinations in the opening half as both sides desperately searched for an early breakthrough.
Our closest opportunity of the opening forty-five minutes arrived in the 40th minute when Carlos Mutapiri rose highest to meet a dangerous cross inside the box.
Unfortunately, the attacker could not quite keep his effort down, watching his powerful header sail just over the crossbar.
At the other end of the pitch, our reliable goalkeeper Tawanda Jacha was called into crucial action barely two minutes later.
The shot-stopper produced a massive save to deny a highly dangerous FC Moyomutema set piece, ensuring we went into the break with the scores completely level.
The second half remained just as fiercely competitive, prompting Head Coach Tendai Nyathi to look to the bench to inject fresh legs.
Admire Mangoma was introduced into the fray, replacing Tinashe Mafunga in the 59th minute to give us new attacking energy.
Later in the half, Try Tevez Ncube stepped onto the grass to replace Carlos Mutapiri in the 83rd minute as we continued to push for a late winner.
Our golden chance to snatch all three points arrived in the 80th minute when substitute Mangoma brilliantly won the ball high up the pitch.
He raced through on goal for a tense one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but his final effort agonizingly drifted narrowly wide of the post.
With neither side able to find the decisive goal, the final referee’s whistle confirmed a highly deserved point for our developing squad against one of the league’s strongest teams.
Speaking after the match, Head Coach Tendai Nyathi was full of praise for his players, highlighting their immense commitment and tactical maturity against quality opposition.
