Young Punters Impress as Tournament Run Ends with Silverware and Individual Accolades
MWOS FC Queens U15 delivered an outstanding account of themselves at the Faith Ministries 50th Anniversary Junior Football Tournament held at Belgravia Sports Club, producing a series of disciplined performances that saw them reach the semi-finals while returning home with several prestigious team and individual accolades.
The young Punters opened their campaign with a resilient defensive display against FC Porto, earning a hard-fought goalless draw. The result laid a solid foundation for the remainder of the tournament, with the team demonstrating composure in possession, tactical discipline and defensive organisation.
MWOS FC Queens quickly shifted through the gears in their second fixture, securing a deserved 2-1 victory over Arundel. Belinda Mutsauri broke the deadlock before Nicole Kafata added a second to put the young Punters firmly in control. Despite conceding late on, MWOS managed the closing stages professionally to seal all three points and strengthen their push for a place in the knockout rounds.
Confidence continued to grow in the following match as the young Punters edged Raging Lion Academy 1-0 in another closely contested affair. Nicole Kafata proved to be the difference-maker, finding the back of the net with the decisive goal as MWOS produced another composed display to secure qualification for the semi-finals.
The squad also faced Jadel Academy’s boys’ side in a challenging encounter that tested their resilience against physically demanding opposition. Although the match ended in a 2-0 defeat, the experience provided another valuable opportunity for the young players to measure themselves against strong competition while continuing their footballing development.
Their impressive tournament journey came to an end in the semi-finals following a spirited 2-1 defeat to Big Staff Academy. MWOS battled throughout the contest and found the scoresheet through Kutenda Mwaremedza, but despite their determined efforts, they were unable to overturn the deficit. The performance, however, reflected the character, fighting spirit and competitive mentality that the team displayed from the opening whistle of the tournament.
While narrowly missing out on a place in the final, MWOS FC Queens U15 left Belgravia Sports Club with far more than a semi-final finish. The team was honoured with the Fair Play Award, recognising their exemplary discipline, sportsmanship and respect for the game throughout the competition. The club was also presented with an Appreciation Trophy in recognition of its positive contribution to the success of the tournament.
Adding further distinction to an already successful campaign, the MWOS FC Queens U15 goalkeeper Anisha Nyaunye was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament, receiving the coveted Golden Glove Award after a string of commanding performances between the posts. Her outstanding shot-stopping ability, composure under pressure, confident handling and crucial saves played a pivotal role in the team’s progression to the semi-finals.
The tournament showcased the remarkable progress being made within the MWOS FC Queens youth development programme. Throughout the competition, the young Punters displayed technical quality, tactical awareness, resilience and togetherness, competing with confidence against quality opposition while embodying the values and identity of the club.
Although the journey ended one step short of the final, the tournament will be remembered as a significant milestone for MWOS FC Queens U15. Reaching the semi-finals, collecting multiple individual and team honours, and producing performances full of promise reaffirmed that the future of the club is in capable hands, with another exciting generation of talent continuing to rise through the ranks.
