Young Punters Show Character Despite Defeat to No Mercy FC

MWOS FC U17 endured a difficult afternoon at Rio Zim Ground in Mhondoro on Saturday, 12 September, falling to No Mercy FC in their latest Division 2 league encounter.

The Young Punters produced an encouraging performance in possession, controlling significant spells of the game and showing good intent in their build-up play. Despite creating opportunities and moving the ball with purpose, they struggled to turn their chances into goals as No Mercy FC proved more clinical in the final third.

The hosts broke the deadlock in the 18th minute, putting the Young Punters behind despite their positive approach to the game. The setback, however, did little to affect MWOS FC U17’s determination, as the young side continued to compete, showing character and resilience as they searched for a way back into the contest.

No Mercy FC went into the interval with a one-goal advantage, leaving the Young Punters with a mountain to climb in the second half.

The hosts extended their lead in the 59th minute after converting from the penalty spot before another successful penalty in the 80th minute put No Mercy three goals ahead.

Despite the scoreline, the Young Punters continued to battle until the final whistle, but were ultimately unable to find a breakthrough as No Mercy FC secured a 3-0 victory.

Speaking after the match, MWOS FC U17 second assistant coach Hamilton Masumbuko praised the team’s development, determination and commitment throughout the encounter.

“I’m happy that the boys are developing, playing nice football and continuing to show character and determination throughout these games. It’s unfortunate that we lost, but we take the lessons, regroup and fix the mistakes we made today. But all in all, I’m happy the boys are playing well.”

The result may not have gone the Young Punters’ way, but the performance offered valuable lessons for the developing squad. With the league campaign continuing, MWOS FC U17 will look to regroup, sharpen their finishing and address the mistakes from the encounter as they prepare for their next challenge.
